Step 1 - The Eco-Schools Committee
The following is a general description of the committee: Eco Club with its objective to create awareness amongst the school community was first started by the Prefectorial Board in 2011, under the supervision of the board’s advisor, Ms. Hariet Thomas who is also the Deputy Principal of the school. The focus of the board for the club was to educate students on recycling. A project called 54 Faces was launched in conjunction with National Day. 54 years of independence with 54 national heroes were depicted in this project. To recognize the effort of the board, The Star newspaper gave us a page of coverage in the R.A.G.E section - http://rage.com.my/357/
In the following year, with a new committee heading the board, we decided to take this club to a leap. We applied to be a member of TESP through WWF Malaysia and received the membership certificate. The following year, the prefects decided to reach out to more students in school and extended the membership to non-prefects. Since then we have accepted non-prefects as member. Students apply to be members. To date we have 40 members from all levels of Sec 1,2,3 & 4. The TESP is still spearheaded by Ms. Hariet Thomas with other teachers assisting her. The members are divided into 5 groups of 5 persons to each group to ease work and to cover more areas - energy division, waste division and healthy living division. Biodiversity activities were carried out by all divisions.
